Wine Made After Dark

Estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a fog-cooled ridge above the Pacific — every cluster picked by lantern light, while the fruit is still cold.

One of the few California houses to harvest entirely at night — acidity kept by temperature, not correction.

Wines of the Evening Coast

Estate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a little Syrah — picked cold at night, raised slowly in a cellar cut into the hillside.

Pale golden yellow color with aromas of brioche, toasted vanilla bean, candied apple and shortbread.

A Ridge Above the Fog Line

Vespera sits on thirty-four acres of ridgeline above Jenner, where the Pacific fog rolls in every evening and the vines cool twenty degrees before midnight. It's a hard place to farm and exactly the right place to grow Pinot Noir.

We planted in 2011, on our own roots where the soil allowed it, and we've farmed the same rows ourselves every season since — no fruit contracts, no négociant lots. If it's in the bottle, it grew within sight of the cellar door.

The Night Harvest

We pick when the fruit is coldest and the coast is quiet — every cluster, by hand, by lantern light.

Cold fruit keeps its acidity without correction, ferments start slow on native yeast, and nothing needs to be forced back into balance later. It takes twice as many hands and twice as long. The wines are why we keep doing it.

What People Are Saying

Loved by Guests & Critics

The night harvest isn't a gimmick — you can taste the cold in the glass. Coastal Pinot with real nerve.

Wine Spectator

A tasting at dusk on that ridge, fog coming over the vines, is the single best hour of wine country right now.

Guest review

Vespera has quietly become the benchmark for what the far Sonoma Coast can do.
